Perilla Guard is a skincare innovation project exploring the natural UV-protective potential of Perilla seed extract. My work focuses on developing eco-safe, plant-based sunscreen formulations that protect human skin while preserving marine ecosystems.

What began as an experiment in the lab has grown into a full research project combining science, sustainability, and community collaboration.
I work with local farmers in Northern Thailand who grow perilla seeds, and with university laboratories that test the extract’s SPF, stability, and safety.

Through Parilla Guard, I aim not only to create a reef-safe, skin-friendly sunscreen, but also to increase income opportunities and introduce new applications for Perilla cultivation in Thailand’s northern hill regions — empowering farmers while advancing sustainable skincare innovation.

My Story
Ever since I was young, the sea has felt like home. I spent my childhood swimming, kayaking, and exploring the water. I always happy when surrounded by the ocean’s calm and color. But back then, I rarely use regular sunscreen because I was allergic to many chemical formulas. My skin would react, and I would end up having to choose between enjoying the sea or protecting myself from the sun.

That challenge became the seed of something bigger — a curiosity to find a better, more natural way to stay safe under the sun. As I grew older and started diving,
I began to see how conventional sunscreens also harm the very ecosystems I loved, coral reefs and marine life.

Those experiences inspired me to create Perilla Guard, a project that combines science and sustainability to develop coral-safe, skin-friendly sunscreen made from Perilla seed extract. It’s my way of giving back to the ocean that has always given me peace, joy, and purpose.
